Wie BeApple al eens heeft gezien weet dat deze band garant staat voor een heel ander geluid dan je op het eerste gezicht zou verwachten. Al vanaf het eerste moment wisten de ‘Eindhoven Four‘ dat hun band nooit letterlijk de gebaande paden van het Beatles tribute circuit zou gaan bewandelen. Het is precies deze keuze die BeApple de afgelopen jaren gebracht heeft naar plekken op de wereld waar ze in het begin nog niet eens over durfden te dromen. Maar deze band heeft dan ook iets speciaals dat ze letterlijk ver brengt.

Oktober 2006 markeert het moment dat 4 enthousiaste Beatles liefhebbers elkaar tegenkomen. Ze hebben elkaar nooit eerder ontmoet maar al heel snel blijkt dat hun individuele muzikale achtergronden als perfect passende puzzelstukjes in elkaar vallen. Tot april 2022 is de bezetting van BeApple nooit gewijzigd wat wijst op een ijzersterke basis.

Met krap 15 nummers staat BeApple op 16 maart 2007 als hoofdact in het bekende Muziekcafé in Helmond. Hun interpretatie van Fixing A Hole blijkt een schot in de roos, het begin van een opvallende ‘twist’ met The Beatles die de band in de loop der jaren zal gaan kenmerken. Een muzikale benadering die al snel wordt opgemerkt door de Engelse radiomaker Kieron Collins. In zijn ’5 o Clock Rock Show’ is het nummer in die jaren regelmatig te horen geweest.
Op 22 maart 2008, iets meer dan één jaar later, wint BeApple met hun versie van ‘Fixing A Hole’ de ‘Beatles Unlimited Golden Apple Award 2008′. De jury schrijft zeer lovend te zijn over het door BeApple zelf bedachte slot waarmee ze vier andere finalisten op afstand achter zich laten. Na de reprise van het winnende nummer wordt de door weinig andere tribute bands gespeelde toegift ‘Getting Better’, “een al even geslaagde versie” genoemd.

Nog in het zelfde jaar vraagt ‘Revolver Magazine’ (tegenwoordig ‘Revolver’s Lust For Life, maandblad voor muziek en meer’) BeApple om een bijdrage op haar speciale White Album 40 Anniversary compilatie CD ‘Het Witte Album’. Die bijdrage wordt Mother Nature’s son. BeApple neemt een unieke eigen versie op die een gewaagde combinatie is van de studioversie met variaties uit onbekende bestaande Beatles demo’s, live-uitvoeringen met accordeon van Paul McCartney en close harmony zang in de stijl van de King Singers.

SPRINGPLANK NAAR DE CAVERN CLUB
In november werkt BeApple aan A Day In The Life met groot accordeonorkest waarmee ze vriend en vijand verrassen. Een homevideo van dit experiment gemaakt door een fan is nog steeds op Youtube te vinden.
Het buitenland lonkt en in januari 2009 is het zover. Voor het eerst speelt BeApple buiten Nederland. Ze doen een “anders dan anders” optreden op het befaamde Cultureel Platform Buster in Antwerpen, bekend als artistiek laboratorium. Binnen een maand daarna worden 9 optredens in Liverpool definitief.
En alsof dat nog niet genoeg is wordt BeApple ook nog gevraagd voor de Lennon Memorial Event in Amsterdam Hilton in maart 2009, de afsluiter van de legendarische John and Yoko Bed-in for Peace herdenking.
Tijdens de Beatle Week die plaatsvindt van 26 augustus tot en met 2 september speelt BeApple zich letterlijk in de internationale aandacht. Een verzoek uit Oostenrijk voor een optreden meteen de week daaropvolgend moet worden afgezegd, het komt simpelweg te snel. In oktober 2009 volgt een vergelijkbare vraag uit Argentinië: 3 tot 4 optredens in Buenos Aires nog eind november van dat jaar. BeApple zet alles op alles om dit niet te hoeven laten schieten. En dat lukt!
De band met ‘The Beatles with a twist’ staat voor een nieuwe fase in haar nog korte bestaan. Wat in 2006 begon als een soort experiment lijkt een goeie zet te zijn geweest, de helft van de optredens die BeApple doet vindt inmiddels plaats buiten Nederland. Hun dertigste buitenlandse ‘gig’ speelde ze in januari 2012 in Tampere Finland.
MUZIKALE BENADERINGSWIJZE
Ter gelegenheid van de vijftigste verjaardag van ‘Love Me Do’ in oktober 2012, heeft BeApple een totaal nieuw arrangement gemaakt van deze eerste hit van hun helden voor het Beatles Story Museum in Liverpool. Dit tekent het niet-aflatende enthousiasme van de bandleden om hun vertolkingen van de muziek van The Beatles keer op keer opnieuw uit te willen vinden.
BeApple heeft inmiddels bewezen een heel eigen plek in het Beatles tribute circuit in te nemen. De ‘Eindhoven four’ blijken tot de weinige Beatles vertolkers te behoren die in staat zijn de binnenkant van de muziek te laten horen, en daarbij ook nog een heel herkenbaar eigen geluid te hebben. Met BeApple ‘The Beatles with a twist’ hoor je de Beatles misschien wel zoals ze nu zouden hebben geklonken.
UITEENVALLEN EN DOORSTART
Na ruim 125 optredens sinds 2006 zijn we ineens aanbeland in 2023. Een bijzonder moment na bijna drie verloren jaren. Zoals bij nagenoeg alles heeft Covid-19 ook bij BeApple zijn sporen nagelaten. Sinds begin 2020 zijn de optredens op minder dan één hand te tellen en dat doet pijn. BeApple’s optreden op zaterdag 27 november 2021 blijkt achteraf het laatste optreden te zijn in de oorspronkelijke bezetting. De vonken springen er vanaf maar nog diezelfde avond gaat een nieuwe lock-down periode in die nog eens een half jaar gaat duren waarin vrijwel niets mag of kan.

Om een lang verhaal kort te maken, de klokken lopen in april 2022 niet meer gelijk genoeg om allemaal gelijkgestemd verder te kunnen. Er komt een zware zomer aan voor de band. Voor de eerste keer in de geschiedenis van BeApple is er sprake van een personeelswissel (oktober 2022). En dat betekent opnieuw een heel ander geluid dan je op het eerste gezicht zou verwachten. BeApple blijft immers BeApple en ook nu deinzen we er niet voor terug om buiten de gebaande paden van het Beatles tribute circuit te treden. De ’twist’ van BeApple is geëvolueerd naar een ‘out of the box’-benadering van The Beatles.
De Beatles vervelen nooit en BeApple blijft bewijzen dat het ook vanaf 2023 nog steeds weet wat ze te doen staat als liveband: verrassend vindingrijk blijven!
De naam BeApple is een mix van de naam van de Fab Four en het door hun opgerichte platenlabel. The Beatles richtten Apple Corps, met een groene appel (Granny Smith) als beeldmerk, op in 1968.

For over 15 years BeApple is well known for their remarkable approach. From the very beginning these Dutch ‘Eindhoven four‘ knew they never wanted to be just another Beatles tribute band. Over the years this has given the band some fantastic performances in special places around the world. Something they had not dared to dream of in the beginning. But this band has something special that literally takes them far.
FORMATION
At the end of October 2006, four enthusiastic Beatles fans, all of them experienced musicians, started BeApple. From the very first moment they were like pieces of a puzzle despite the fact they had never met before. Until April 2022, BeApple’s staffing has never changed, which has guaranteed a strong foundation.

With only 15 songs only half finished BeApple’s first appearance as a main act is at the well known Muziekcafé in Helmond (NL) on March 16, 2007. BeApple’s interpretation of Fixing A Hole hits the mark, it highlights the start of what we now know as BeApple’s “The Beatles with a twist”. At the time this attracts the attention of English radio man Kieron Collins. In his ’5 o Clock Rock Show’ the song is played on a regular basis.
On 22 March 2008, just over a year later, BeApple is awarded the ‘Beatles Unlimited Golden Apple 2008′ for their reworking of ‘Fixing A Hole’. The jury praises BeApple’s original finale of the song, which means leaving the other four finalists behind. The encore Getting Better, is rewarded an ‘equally successful version’.

Later on the highly acclaimed ‘Revolver Magazine’ (today ‘Revolver’s Lust For Life’) asks BeApple for a contribution to a special White Album 40th Anniversary compilation CD ‘Het Witte Album’. It’s clear this should be Mother Nature’s son. BeApple reworks the song in less than a week. A challenging job, knowing it is a daring combination of the studio version with variations from unique existing Beatles demo’s, live (Paul McCartney) performances with accordion and close harmony singing in a King Singers style.

STEPPING STONE TO CAVERN CLUB
In November 2008 BeApple records A Day In The Life with a large accordion orchestra with a large accordion orchestra. A homevideo of this exceptional experiment made by a fan is still to be found on Youtube.
Then abroad beckoned. In January 2009 BeApple has their first gig abroad in Antwerp Belgium on the famous ‘Buster Cultural Platform’, well known for their artistic laboratories. Within a month after that 9 gigs in Liverpool are confirmed.
As if that wasn’t enough, BeApple also appears at the Lennon Memorial Event in Amsterdam Hilton in March 2009, the conclusion of the legendary John and Yoko Bed-in for Peace memorial.
During the 2009 Beatle Week from August 26 to the 1st of September BeApple attracts international attention. A request from Austria to play a gig directly after these nine ones has to be cancelled, it’s all too fast. In October a similar request follows from Argentina. An offer they can’t refuse. At the end of November all 4 gigs in Buenos Aires are sold out.
BeApple ‘The Beatles with a twist’ enters a new phase in their short existence. What started in 2006 as a kind of experiment turns out to be a good guess. Half of their gigs nowadays are outside the Netherlands. BeApple plays their thirtieth show abroad in January 2012 in Tampere Finland.
MUSICAL APPROACH
In honor of the fiftieth anniversary of ‘Love Me Do’ in October 2012, BeApple reworks this first number one Beatles song for the Beatles Story Museum in Liverpool to proof this. In fact, this shows the band members’ unwavering enthusiasm to reinvent their rendition of The Beatles over and over again.
Today BeApple is acclaimed for their unique approach in the Beatles tribute scene. The ‘Eindhoven Four’ succeed to touch the atmosphere and the character of the original recordings in an unique personal way. BeApple’s “The Beatles with a twist” might be close to the sound of the fab four translated into the twenty-first century.
BREAK-UP AND RESTART
After more than 125 performances since 2006, we suddenly arrived in 2023. A special moment after almost three lost years. As with almost everything, Covid-19 has also left its mark on BeApple. Since the beginning of 2020, the performances can be counted on less than one hand and that hurts. BeApple’s performance on Saturday, November 27, 2021 turns out to be the last performance in the original line-up. The sparks fly, but that same evening a new lock-down period will start that will last another half a year in which almost nothing is allowed or possible.

To make a long story short, in April 2022 one could feel that we forgot to keep the clocks to the correct time to be able to continue in unison. A tough summer lies ahead for BeApple. For the first time in BeApple’s history, there is a personnel change (October 2022). And that again means a fairly different sound than you would expect at first glance. BeApple remains BeApple and even now we don’t shy away from going off the beaten track of the Beatles tribute circuit. The ’twist’ of BeApple has evolved into an ‘out of the box’ approach of The Beatles.
Beatles never get boring and BeApple proves that it still knows what to do as a live band from 2023 and beyond: remain surprisingly resourceful!
BeApple’s name is a mix of the Fab Four’s name and the record label founded by them. The Beatles founded Apple Corps, with a green apple (Granny Smith) as their logo, in 1968.
